Lyrics for Album 3

1. Woodpecker

Hey there Woodpecker, I hear you knocking on that tree. Well I’m just sitting here all alone, try and knock some sense into me. Spring is here and you’re making a home. Well I’m just sitting here, watching flowers grow.

(and he said) Make the most of the summertime. Winter won’t be far behind you. Keep on knocking till you find out where you’re meant to be.

Well I think that’s what he said, but I know just what he means. I spend too long inside my head lost amongst my dreams. And you aint gonna find what you're looking for 'till you step outside the front door.   (He said)

Seasons come and seasons go, don’t just watch the flowers grow. You've got to keep on knocking till you know, everything will work out fine.

Black and white, a flash of red he took off through the trees. But he'd made me smile with what he said and I found a way through my dreams. But there’s a sparrowhawk flying around. Watch out Woodpecker, better keep your head down.

Make the most of the summertime. Winter won’t be far behind you. Keep on knocking till you find out where you’re meant to be.

You’ve got let your children play, nature will always has its way. May not be what you had in mind, but things will work out fine.

2. Consequences

Stay a while young man there's something that I want to say. I know you’ve got lots of places to go and you want to be on your way. You can't teach young dogs the old tricks, they’ve gotta find out for themselves. Well if you can't learn from your own mistakes, you aint gonna learn from anyone else.

Everything you do and everything you say and how you wish to be defined. Well it all goes up in smoke like all your good intentions, when you look at all the mess you left behind

Priests and politicians, they all want to control your mind. Like jugglers and magicians, with them the truth is always hard to find. Men of justice, men of science, the blind leading the blind. Take a look at the history books and time after time.

All they do for god and all they do for money, or for the good of all mankind. With all their fine pretentions and their wonderful inventions they leave a whole lotta mess behind.

I know where you’re going young man, I know where you’re at. The clothes, the smile, that look in your eyes, well I was once like that. I'm sure she’s pretty, I'm sure she’s fine. You get lost within in her eyes. But don’t do something you’re gonna regret 'cause you’ll pay for such a long time.

Everything you do and everything you say, it's gonna stick in her mind. And if your feelings stray and you start to play away well you're gonna leave a whole lotta mess behind.

You got both eyes on the future with no thought for the past but when you get older the past gets longer and the future comes by way too fast. So be a good man, don't turn to crime Try to make your life a success.

You won’t please everyone all the time you can only try your best

Everything you do and everything you say, well its all entwined. So take a little rest on that stairway to success

and think about the mess you’re gonna leave behind.

'Cos everything you do and everything you say and how you wish to be defined. Well it all goes up in smoke like all your good intentions, when you look at all the mess you left behind.

3. A kiss in the rain

I was thinking about the days, all the ways we tarried. All that time, never in line, always taking the long way round. But there was something about that night, something that just felt so right. I wanted to say I feel that way, hoping you'd feel the same.

A kiss in the rain and everything changed. Just a kiss in the rain but I swear there were stars

There were rainbows in your eyes. Bells were ringing, birds were singing, stars were shining bright.

Yes its true. There were fireworks in the sky. Thunder crashed, lightning flashed, the sun began to rise.

Then the next day, going separate ways All a disguise, pretending goodbyes until everyone went away. There were no more words to say. Just meant to be that way. All revealed, nothing concealed. Together since that day.

A kiss in the rain and everything changed. Just a kiss in the rain but I swear there were stars.

There were rainbows in your eyes. Bells were ringing, birds were singing and the stars were shining bright.

Yes its true. There were fireworks in the sky. Thunder crashed, lightning flashed and the sun began to rise.

Yes I swear, there were rainbows in your eyes. Bells were ringing, birds were singing, the sun shone through the night.

Rainbows and fireworks, stars shining bright. All from a kiss in the rain.

4. Hurricane Love

It comes out of the blue, its nothing new, it happens all the time. Spins you around, takes your feet off the ground, breaks your heart before you realise. The wind and tides are catching up on you. Its Hurricane Love.

One glance, you've no chance when she gets you in her eyes. In her arms, the calm before the storm. You never see the warning signs until it’s too late. You know what’s coming through? Its Hurricane Love.

And you can’t run away. It happens every day. Nothing gonna save you from Hurricane Love.

Now don’t be ashamed when all that rain running down your face. Nothings to blame. 'Cos everyone makes the same mistakes in love.

Raw power, 100mph. gonna blow your heart away. You cant hide, it steals your mind, but you wouldn’t want it any other way. Stars in your eyes, maybe she's telling you lies, but what the hell. Its Hurricane Love.

And you can’t run away. It happens every day. Nothing gonna save you from. Hurricane Love.  (repeat)

5. Photographs

Look at this young man, here in my hands. I know those clothes he wears, the place he stands

With mountains to climb and so much time on his hands. I see him now, I wish I could be him again

Look at these children, family and friends. A land of blue skies with sunshine and sand

Where everyone smiles, with everywhere and nowhere to go. I remember them all. I wish I could tell them so

I hear their voices   Echo through my mind. Tell me when did all this time go by

I know you young man, all that you’ve done. So much to hope for, so much to become

With so much on your mind and so many things to find. They were there all the time but you won’t realise it 'til they’re gone.

Look at this old man, see how we’ve changed. Times poisoned arrow makes you wiser as you age.

And you walk the middle road where dreams and reality collide and the lofty peaks of destiny are eroded by comfort and compromise.

All these photographs, pictures of my life. Just tell me when did all this time go by.

I know those pictures well, the stories that they tell, but I don’t know how all this time went by. No I don't know how all this time went by.

6. Forgiven

So now you know the truth. Theres no-one here to blame. Sometimes we find our lives torn in different ways.

But now you know the truth. It was there all the time. Sometimes we’re scared to look, afraid of what we’ll find.

But through it all I never changed the way that I feel, though I sometimes saw the doubt behind your smile.

You and I remain, live now for today. Walk away from  lies.

We'll make the most of all we have left, we'll not waste these precious days. No talk of blame, no regrets, they just get in the way.

I tried to hide the hurt, the anger deep inside. Always there, I couldn’t share it, I didn’t want to see you cry.

But now you know the truth, well it doesn’t hurt so much. There's nothing to forgive, I loved you all the time.

And through it all I never changed the way that I feel, though I sometimes saw the doubt behind your smile.

You and I remain, we can live now for today, walk away from lies.

We'll make the most of what all have left. We'll not waste these precious days. No talk of blame no regret, they just get in the way.

Hold your head high, feel the sun. No fear, no shame, there's nothing we've done wrong. This time is ours now, we can defy everyone.

There's nothing to forgive, wipe the tears from your eyes. Nothing to explain, don’t even try.

All the hard times behind, now everything is fine. Now I know the truth, you loved me all the time.

Lyrics for Album 3

7. Mary Dancing

Mary dances through the Machair. The wind blows at her clothes and her hair. Clouds cast shadows that race across the shoreline. But on her brow there’s never a care

She is young, she is pretty, she is wise, and wonder fills her eyes. She sings as she wanders. In her heart she’s dancing all the time. She’s dancing all the time

Through winter storms or summer sunshine, white sands call the waves to play. Mary walks the land dreaming of the young man she is sure to meet somewhere on her way.

He’ll be strong, he’ll be handsome, he’ll be kind, with laughter in his eyes. He will swear to love her and be true until all the seas run dry. Until all the seas run dry.

Love is all she sings. Love is all she sings. Life is what she brings.

8. Selkie

I watched her from the dunes, she was dancing on the shore. A seal pelt lay on the sand as she took on human form. To touch with gentle hands, feel the warmth of an embrace, hear the whispered promises of love against her face.

Selkie. This is what you yearn for Selkie, this is what you dream of.

But I knew she'd be gone with the tide so I stole the pelt away and watched retreating waves leave selkie on the shore behind.

She lived with me all Summer, we never were apart, but though she said she loved me, the sea was in her heart.

Autumn passed, then winter brought an ending to the year. In the hearth-light glow she could barely hide her tears.

Selkie, the sea is what you yearn for Selkie, the sea will always call you back.

In the end she remembered what it felt like to be free. She found the pelt and went back to the sea.

Selkie, you're all that I dream of, Selkie, and I curse the waves that called you back.

9. Fossilised

(i)  Fossil

I’ve been waiting for you since the Devonian. Millions of years, patient, lonely and buried in stone.

Dig me up, take me home.

Through the Jurassic, through the Cretaceous, enough to try anyone’s patience. I need to escape.

From this matrix I’m in.

Come and find me, I'm buried in the sand. I can make you smile, just hold me in your hand.

Come on and find me, take this dust away. Let me see again the light of day.

Volcanoes and glaciers, asteroid impaction, tectonic movement that’s just a fraction of what I’ve been through while I’ve waited for you.

From deep in the ocean to high on a mountain, so many years I just stopped counting.

I’m tired of extinction. I think you would be too.

Help me find my place in history, give me a name, put me on display.

I don’t want to be just a mystery that the waves and tide will wash away.

(ii) Remembering

I remember those days, the sea was warm. Sunlight filtered down making patterns on the reef

Hunt at night, rest in the day. Survive, procreate, that's always nature's way

I had grown, I was strong. I was fast, I knew how to get along.

Then the waters all changed, everything turned grey. Nowhere to hide, buried alive.

(iii) Release

Now I'm back, tumbled from on high. Don’t know how, don’t know why, but coastal erosion I think that’s the guy.

Come on and find me, I’ve waited all this time Evolution says your life is connected to mine.

I'm gonna be famous, they're gonna write books about me. They're gonna take pictures of me. You can be famous too.

(iv) Discovery

Hey look what I’ve found! Buried in the sand. I've searched all my life for something like this. Millions of years in my hands. Its calling me through all this history. Gotta show the world, gotta set it free. Such a great discovery.

Its got me mesmerised, hypnotised. Hell, I think I've been fossilised.

10. Jennifer Wren

Jennifer Wren is my best friend, I see her every now and then bobbing around the old stone wall

She’s quick to hide when predators come to call.

Over the meadow late at night Barney the owl is taking a flight. You won’t hear him coming till it’s too late. He’s got children to feed and hunger just cant wait.

Take a walk on the wild side, see the animals play, red in tooth and claw all the way. Take a walk on the wild side, with all the feathers and fur. Well its life or death every day out there.

Johnny the fox he ain't so sly, he's really just a sociable guy. So may creatures that he likes to meet. He says rabbits are nice, but frogs and mice are a treat.

Willy the weasel pops down the hole, he's come calling on Vicki the vole but she’s not at home, so Willy scurries away. If a kestrel don’t see her Vicki might live another day.

Take a walk on the wild side, see the animals play, red in tooth and claw all the way. Take a walk on the wild side, with all the feathers and fur. Well it's life or death every day out there.

Jennifer Wren is my best friend, I only see her now and then but I hear her singing at the start of each day. She makes the sun come up and the clouds roll away.
